If you have a watercloset in your bathroom that can also double as a grow closet, it’s an easy and inexpensive way to create either a vegetation room or a flowering room that can comfortably hold up to 12 – 15 plants. Here, you can see there is some lightweight racking in this master bath’s WC that straddles the toilet but doesn’t render it unusable.
2 sets of metal build-it-yourself kitchen racks from HD fit the bill perfectly for about $20 each. With quick, easy assembly out of the box, you can start with a couple sets as shown here, simply stacked on top of each other with a piece of plywood separating them to provide a base for the other one to stand on. Each set comes with 2 shelves, but they’re even sturdy enough to use only one shelf, which you can position anywhere on the legs. And it’s easy enough to quickly break them down and re-configure as your plants grow and adjustments need to be made. Not seen in the picture are the two 2×4 studs, both about 20″ in length, that are on the floor and that the bottom 4 legs stand upon for added stability.
The 4-bulb T2 fluourescent hood simply sits on top of the upper rack, and a small fan hangs on the wall to keep the air circulating in the enclosed space.
I bought 3 racks (only need that 3rd one when the plants get about 18″ high), so this configuration set me back only about $65 bucks.
