In deciding how to grow, closet space may be a scarcity for you. But don’t worry – in this particular example, the growers didn’t use a closet at all – they simply used their small laundry room as their grow space!
This is another ultra simple approach with minimal costs involved. Two 3′ lengths of lightweight aluminum chain are cut, each with a loop made on one end of them. An aluminum shower rod is passed through the two loops and is then set up on top of the two outermost cabinet doors which are left open. S hooks are used to connect the other ends of the chains to the light fixture (in this case, it’s a fairly lightweight 4-bulb fluorescent grow lamp).
Using the tops of the washing machine and dryer as the “shelf”, the light can easily be adjusted upward periodically as the plants grow taller.
This particular laundry room has plenty of power available in it, along with a ceiling mounted air conditioning vent which keeps the room at the perfect temperature for the plants. If venting cannabis odors becomes a necessity, the door to the garage can be cracked to allow for smells to escape into it. In addition, many laundry rooms also have a ceiling mounted exhaust fan that can be used to vent any cannabis odors outside.
The main drawback to using the laundry room as your grow closet is that it is probably located within a higher traffic area of your house or apartment. If you live alone, though, that may not necessarily be a problem. Even if you do have to “tear down” your room occasionally to avoid detection, it need only take a minute or two – at most – to move your plants somewhere else, unhook the light, and stow it and your shower rods and chains somewhere close by.
Two 8″ clay pots, sitting inside a tray to catch any water spillage, can easily accommodate up to six plants underneath this standard-size grow light.
In this particular case, the grower spent less than $20.00 on hardware to equip the laundry room for grow room use (6′ of aluminum chain, four S hooks, a triple cube outlet plug, and digital timer). Go spend another $7 – $10 for a small fan to keep the air circulating in the room and your grow “closet” is ready for use.
